Stewart is an experienced consultant team lead with a demonstrated history of working in international development in the environmental sector with 28 years of experience, 18 years at the international level including 13 years in the Pacific Region. Background

Nate has a strong technical and inter-cultural skills background with a Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of International Studies, and a Master of Project Management. He specialises in solid waste management, data-driven project coordination, and technical advisory across Small Island Developing States. Nate has leveraged strong project management skills and technical expertise supporting initiatives with institutions including ADB, Australian DFAT, DEFRA/CEFAS, EU, IUCN, Monash University, PRIF, ProBlue, and World Bank across the Pacific and Caribbean regions. 


Experienced in digital data collection and analysis using CAPI tools, Nate has led waste audits, litter surveys, healthcare and ship waste assessments, and stockpile evaluations. His expertise includes waste statistical analysis, report writing, customs liaison, stakeholder engagement, and designing training programs for government officials and communities. 


Nate is experienced with the Solomon Islands having conducted solid waste management projects throughout Honiara and Auki, Malaita, coordinated and implemented pilot of waste aluminium and plastic recycling in Gizo, and establishing CAPI data management systems for waste and recycling in Honiara. Nate has extensive fieldwork experience where he consistently delivers integrated waste management solutions aligned with sustainable development goals. Nate applies advanced project management and decision-making tools such as Earned Value Analysis, Multi-Attribute Utility Theory, and PERT, to deliver efficient and effective project outcomes. He has coordinated feasibility studies, pilot programs, and policy development initiatives, including supporting plastic management policy and climate-resilient waste infrastructure design.

Background

Kayla has worked across a range of environmental waste projects with her focus being on areas such as gender, social development, community engagement and social inclusion. Across the Caribbean and Asia-Pacific regions Kayla has been involved in providing expertise on social and gender issues,  studying and reporting on the implications of a proposed nappy ban in Vanuatu, implications of plastic materials replacing traditionally used organic matter for packaging in local markets, gender/vulnerability assessment and management recommendations, and country-specific cultures of use and attitudes towards various forms of waste. Kayla is also knowledgeable in the design and implementation of Behaviour Change Frameworks such as Community-Based Social Marketing (CBSM) and how they can be used to bring about sustainable behaviour change in a variety of community and industry settings. 


Kayla’s overall international portfolio includes the ADB Project Readiness Financing for preparing the Honiara Sustainable Solid Waste Management Project, the ADB/PRIF Pacific Regional Recycling Centre Scoping Study, IUCN Plastic Waste Free Islands (PWFI) MTR for the Caribbean & Pacific, ProBlue Marine Plastics (Caribbean OECS), a Waste Scoping Study of Norfolk Island (Monash University & Norfolk Island Regional Council), the Australian DFAT Solomon Islands Waste & Tourism project, and JICA’s J-PRISM Project (which developed capacity to sustainably manage solid waste across 11 PICs).

This scholarship allows up to 100 undergraduate students across Australian universities to study and intern across the Indo-Pacific region in order to create and strengthen ties between Australia and their host locations. Background

Sunishma is an environmental professional with extensive experience in tourism and sustainability across Fiji, Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands. She is adept at implementing strategies for environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance and has expertise in risk assessment, partnership building and driving sustainable practices for effective environmental initiatives. 

As Sustainability Lead for Tourism Fiji, she developed and executed a robust sustainability roadmap for Tourism Fiji, laying the groundwork for integrated sustainable practices across operational aspects, guiding Fiji towards a leading position in sustainable tourism. She has designed and implemented training to promote Fiji’s agri-tourism and its role in sustainable tourism. She has also assisted the tourism industry with capacity building and trade facilitation, advancing the use of local products and talent, particularly by empowering women entrepreneurs, and collaborated with local governments on community-based resilience and tourism development programs. 


Sunishma attended COP25, as part of the Fiji delegation, and has spearheaded educational webinars, engaged in global recycling days, and collaborated on coral conservation, furthering knowledge exchange and advocating for environmental preservation and sustainable practices within the tourism industry and the broader community.

Background

Rosie is an environmental engineer with over 14 years broad experience in project management, engineering and research in the fields of waste management, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), and Integrated Water Management. She has worked in the Solomon Islands, Pacific Region, South Sudan, Bangladesh, Uganda, India and Australia across broad sectors including academia, humanitarian response, consulting, local government, and community development. 


She has consulted on WASH and waste projects in the Solomon Islands including undertaking Citywide Inclusive Sanitation planning for Greater Honiara, Solomon Islands. This World Bank project involved stakeholder engagement, technical, finance, governance and capacity assessments, and creating planning horizons. The Nature Conservancy project for Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) planning and design support for the Arnavons Marine Conservation Park accommodation and learning centre upgrade included water supply assessment, sanitation needs, community engagement planning and advisory services.


Rosie is an adjunct researcher at Solomon Islands National University and researcher with the International WaterCentre. She has presented at various conferences and has contributed to numerous peer-reviewed articles and technical reports.

Zelda is a natural resource management, climate adaptation and waste management practitioner with over 15 years of experience working in coastal resource management, project coordination, and research in the Solomon Islands and the Pacific Region. Her expertise spans climate change adaptation planning, sustainable fisheries management, gender mainstreaming, community-based resource management, solid waste management and indigenous environmental management.


She has worked extensively in the Solomon Islands (including Western, Isabel, Malaita, Central, and Guadalcanal provinces) and Pacific Region (including Fiji, Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu) with international organisations such as WorldFish, WWF, the International Organisation for Migration (IMO), CSIRO, SPREP, World Bank and locally based NGOs. She has also contributed to academic research and knowledge products promoting community resilience and environmental governance. 

Vaulton Peter

Background

Vaulton has over 10 years of extensive experience in sales, marketing, logistics, and business development in the Solomon Islands. His solid waste management experience includes implementing sustainable tourism practices, managing e-waste associated with the telecommunications industry and brewing, agricultural and organic waste management. He also has experience in supply chain management including international shipping within the brewing and beverage sector and is a member of Plasticwise Gizo.


He has worked in the tourism sector in the Western Province, telecommunications and logistics in Honiara and with Adam Smith International under the Strongim Bisnis program which identified poor waste management practices as one of the inhibiting factors for tourism growth. This AUD14 million, three-year market systems development (MSD) program, working under the umbrella of the Solomon Islands Growth Pro-gram was to stimulate growth in specific sectors (initially tourism, cocoa and coconut) through activities that catalyse business innovation, change practices, strengthen collaboration, manage risks, build resilience and increase women’s participation and empowerment.

Background

Rendy has worked extensively in community engagement in Western Province, Solomon Islands. As the elected president of the Western Province Council of Women she holds an executive role in advocating government policies and implementation of programs to advance the progress and status of women in Western Province and Solomon Islands in general. 


As founder and chair of Plasticwise Gizo, a grassroot environment advocacy network, she coordinates and facilitates women to advocate on environmental issues with rural women and communities as volunteers to reduce and ban plastics through supporting the single use plastic ban in Western Province, Solomon Islands. Through the Garbage Weavers of Gizo program, which empowers women and girls to turn waste into sustainable livelihoods, she has promoted environmental stewardship and created economic opportunities for vulnerable groups.


As member and chair of the Western Province Network for Sustainable Environment she has been involved in advocacy activities for international event days including International Environment Day, World Ocean Day and Coral Triangle Day. 


As a member of SafeNet referral pathway for Western Province Council of Women she is involved in awareness raising, advocacy and the promotion of policies for child protection, domestic violence and all forms of abuse affecting women, children, families and communities within the 26 wards of Western Province.


Rendy is the recipient of the 2025 Australia Awards Alumni Warrior Climate Award in recognition of outstanding leadership and innovation in climate action and environmental sustainability.

Background

Dafisha has extensive experience working in environmental sustainability and community resilience across the Solomon Islands on a variety of donor funded projects. Through her roles as program manager, community-based fisheries fishery officer and sustainable livelihood officer she has worked on solid and organic waste management and strengthening communities through building sustainable coastal habitats.  


She has managed a Solomon Island Positive Change for Marine Life program which focused on addressing the systemic problem of solid and organic waste through inclusion, diversity and participation. She recruited, trained and managed a dedicated team of local volunteers to support community-based project delivery and foster long-term program sustainability and local ownership.

Through various roles working as a Community-Based Fisheries Fishery Officer under WWF funded projects she has been able to engage and build partnerships with communities and other stakeholders and conduct community workshops, focus group discussions, and interviews within the community. She also has experience working with community facilitators to identify knowledge brokers to prioritise strategies and pathways and identify capacity-building training needs. 


She has worked as a sustainable livelihood officer in Western Province on a CEPF program to conduct mapping workshops with communities around Kolombangara Island and Gizo Island. She coordinated and conducted community-based awareness programs and undertook train the trainer training. Through a DFAT funded program she was responsible for the development of awareness materials, including for in-country media (radio, newspaper, etc.), co-ordinated and conducted community-based awareness programs, and awareness workshops for partners and stakeholders. 

She has undertaken social research on behalf of WorldFish Centre in Leona, Western Province, through conducting household surveys, focus group discussions, key informant interviews, note taking and data entry.
